nigel

Nigel, pictured, is just one of the many success stories (as he was recently adopted) of the SPCA of Westchester’s “The Way Home” program that was developed with and supported by the Tortorella Foundation.

The Nose Work program at the SPCA of Westchester is an important part of “The Way Home” (sponsored in part by the Tortorella Foundation)!

Every week, staff and volunteers at the SPCA of Westchester work on nose work with the dogs. K9 Nose Work develops a dog’s natural scenting abilities through fun and games. It teaches the handler how to learn from the dog, allowing scent-challenged humans a fascinating peek into the otherwise invisible world of scent that dogs inhabit. By utilizing basic search-dog skills, nose work builds confidence, burns off mental and physical energy, and reinforces the bond between dog and hand.
